Conceal Carry Permits

            Since qualifications for concealed carry permits are highly regulated, there can be instances where an individual will encounter difficulties in renewing a permit after it has been issued.  Any criminal conviction that occurs after the issuance of a permit can result in the revocation of the permit or the denial of a renewal application.

            There are many restrictions applicable to the issuance of a concealed carry permit.  In general, an applicant is required to meet the following checklist:

            1.         be a bona fide resident of Kentucky for at least six months prior to filing the application;

            2.         be 21 years of age or older;

            3.         not be under indictment for or have any conviction of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

            4.         not be an unlawful user or drug addict or a fugitive from justice;

            5.         not be under any mental health sentence or have a history of having been committed to a mental health institution;

            6.         not have a dishonorable discharge from the military;

            7.         not be subject to any pending domestic violence order or emergency protective order and not having been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence;

            8.         not be a prohibited person under federal law relating to possession of firearms;

            9.         not have 2 or more convictions for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and not having an alcohol related offense for violation of Kentucky Chapter 222 within 3 years preceding the application; and

            10.       not have been committed to a federal facility for abuse of a controlled substance or convicted of a misdemeanor relating to a controlled substance within the 3 year period preceding the date of the application.

            Obviously, there are many strings attached to individuals seeking a concealed carry permit.  Such individuals are also required to attend a training class in gun safety. Some training classes may offer assistance with processing the application.
